Everyday NhanSense – Day 86

Everyday NhanSense: Each day, I will blog about something that comes to mind. My goal is to practice writing about my hobbies, my interests, my opinions and so forth.

Day 86’s Topic: Listening.
If there is one trait I know I have going for me, it’s that I am in fact a great listener. An excellent one at that.

After all, it’s something I developed over the years when it came to talking with people about things. I have had a lot of experience with just having others listen to my ramblings, the stuff I happen to bemoan about, my fears, my concerns, my hopes, my dreams and so forth.

It’s only natural I became a good listener in turn.

I feel I should put this listening ability to good use, as in doing something on a grander and meaningful scale. But in the meantime, I am content with lending my ear for someone who needs to let it out.

Sometimes, you honestly just need that person to sit down with you, listen intently and give you the nod of “mhmm” as you get what you need to say off your chest. I like being this person who can and will listen to what you have to say. You just need to ask kindly.

It’s that simple.

If there is a minor regret I have in life, I guess it’s not turning to counselors when I was growing up, particularly in grade school. I wasn’t a troubled kid by any means. It’s not like I needed extreme counseling, but I am certain some talks a bit sooner here and there would have made a significant impact for me when I needed some answers to various questions.

Regardless, talking with all kinds of friends would suffice in my early years. Sure, it’s not “professional” help, but just talking it out does a lot of good.

Girls. Interests. Hobbies. Whatever.

I think had I developed a better understanding for the necessity of better listening/conversational skills, I would be in a much superior position today. Or so I assume.

Anyway, that’s why I think I should try to find more people to speak with, as everyone always has something to say if you give them the means to do so.

Some people have rough days and want to vent. Some people have good days and want to gloat a bit.

Let them.

Otherwise, you could all end up like me when I was in a tough pinch, but luckily I found friends who were kind enough to give me the of day when I needed it most.

Listen with both an open mind and an open heart, and you’d be surprised how much good it does for the universe.
